History of DeWalt Power Tools

DeWalt is a world leading American tool manufacturer that originated in 1924 under the name “DeWalt Products Company” in Leola, Pennsylvania in the United States. The company was founded by Raymond E. DeWalt, who worked in plants and construction and wanted to reduce the costs of labour whilst increasing productivity and versatillity. This led to the creation of the first radial arm machine for woodworking in 1922. In 1924, when the company was formed, the electric woodworking machine the company created became known as the “Wonder Worker”. In 1941, to meet wartime machinery efforts and the demands of the U.S.A. national defense, the company began expanding rapidly. In 1947, the company re-branded and re-incorporated to DeWalt Inc and was later acquired by American Machine Foundry in 1949 and later extended operations to Canada in 1953 which was known as DeWalt Canada Ltd.In 1955, the company increased its manufacturing space to meet the growing demands of consumers and was sold to Black & Decker in 1960. In 1992, DeWalt introduced its very first line of portable electric power tools and accessories which was later followed by the launch of 30 new cordless tools in 1994. Since then, DeWalt has grown exponentially, currently holding 64 manufacturing facilities all across the United States. As of 2001, DeWalt had created more than 200 different power tools and 800 accessories.
