What's the difference between impact drivers and standard combi drills?
Impact drivers deliver more rotational power through the use of rapid impacts applied to the turning action of the driver. In addition to this increased torque, impact drivers are generally more compact that standard combi drills.
What applications are impact drivers best suited for?
The greater torque levels of impact drivers make them much better suited to driving screws into material at a rapid rate, compared to standard combi drills. Greater torque also means you can get through these jobs quicker, with less effort. Impact drivers are not well suited to drilling holes, and you'll most likely find it hard to drill straight holes with them due to the higher torque and rapid impacts of the internal mechanism.
