Fresh out of University in 1924, Alfred Karcher started work at his father’s agency developing as an Engineer. Branching out into his own company in 1935, Karcher began producing his own products in heating technology. In 1950, Karcher had major breakthrough in cleaning technology with the first European high pressure water cleaner. This pioneering design was so ahead of it’s time that it still plays a part in today's design process. Sadly, Alfred Karcher died in 1958 so he wasn’t able to see the huge impact his innovations were to have on the world, but his wife took over the company and guided them to where it is today. In 1962, led by Karchers wife Irene, the brand founded it’s first subsidiary in France, closely followed by Austria & Switzerland. For the next 3 decades, Irene continued to grow the company resulting in 57 subsidiaries worldwide with over 190 service points by 2012. However, it was only in 1974 that Karcher turned its attention to high pressure cleaning, which is where things really took off. With so many milestones along the way and their continuous improvement, it’s clear to see why they are the leading provider of cleaning systems.
