MIG Welder Features
Exceptional Versatility
A high-quality MIG welder is capable of welding a wide variety of metals of varying thicknesses, including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium. This makes it an incredibly versatile, must-have piece of equipment for automotive garages, agricultural repairs, and general metal fabrication.
Gas and Gasless Operation
Many of the MIG welders we stock offer highly flexible dual functionality. You can use traditional shielding gas for exceptionally clean, slag-free welds on thinner materials, or switch to flux-cored wire for a completely gasless MIG welder setup. Gasless welding is perfect for outdoor site work where wind might blow away standard shielding gas.
User-Friendly Controls
Modern MIG welders feature intuitive digital interfaces with easily adjustable voltage and wire feed speed controls. This allows both seasoned welding professionals and complete beginners to quickly and easily dial in the perfect settings for smooth, consistent welds every time.
Inverter Technology
Many of our latest MIG welders utilise advanced inverter technology. This drastically reduces the size and weight of the machine compared to traditional transformer welders, making your MIG welder highly portable and much more energy-efficient without sacrificing arc stability or power output.
MIG Welder FAQs
What does MIG stand for?
MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas. A MIG welder operates by continuously feeding a solid wire electrode through a welding gun and into the weld pool. At the same time, a shielding gas (typically Argon or an Argon/CO2 mix) is sent through the gun to protect the weld pool from atmospheric contamination.
Can a MIG welder run without gas?
Yes, provided it is set up for it. By using a specialized flux-cored wire, you can operate a MIG welder without needing an external heavy gas cylinder. This is known as gasless MIG welding, and it is the ideal setup for working outdoors or on breezy job sites.
What metals can I weld with a MIG welder?
You can weld a huge variety of materials with a standard MIG welder, most commonly mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium. You simply need to ensure you are using the correct matching wire type and the appropriate shielding gas for the specific metal you are working on.
Is MIG welding easy for beginners?
Yes! A MIG welder is widely considered the easiest welding machine for beginners to learn on. Because the machine automatically feeds the filler wire at a constant speed, the operator can focus entirely on maintaining a steady hand, controlling the welding gun, and observing the weld pool.
