FAQs
What are wood routers used for?
Routers are used exclusively with wooden workpieces, in a variety of applications like cutting joints, sharpening edges, making cutouts, and making decorative surface cuts.
What is the difference between a fixed base and plunge router?
With a fixed base router, the router is locked at a fixed location in the base, with the cutting bit not able to move – giving you a very precise cut. Plunge routers use spring-loaded arms to move up and down the on the base, allowing the user to ‘plunge’ the cutting bit down into the material from above.
Do I need to wear protective gear when using a router?
When using any woodworking machinery, you should always make sure to wear protective eyewear, gloves, and protective earwear if your machinery is loud.
