Types of Laser Levels
Self-Levelling Laser Levels
Our range of self-levelling laser levels allows users to easily achieve precise horizontal and vertical readings, automatically compensating for minor unevenness on the floor surface. These highly accurate tools are a must-have for professionals like carpenters, masons, bricklayers, millwrights, and metalworkers who rely on a dependable laser level to meet tight project deadlines with flawless accuracy.
Rotary Laser Levels
A rotary laser level is an indispensable tool for building, construction, and large-scale interior finishing work. By emitting a 360° rotating beam, it establishes a continuous level plane across an entire room or site. Beyond standard levelling, a rotary laser level is perfect for 90° layouts, squaring, plumb positioning, and complex alignments. They are ideal for both professionals and keen DIYers working on major renovations—from aligning cabinets and leveling floors to setting door and window frames.
Cross-Line Laser Levels
Primarily used indoors, a cross-line laser level projects highly visible horizontal and vertical laser lines. They are perfect for precise installations like fitting kitchens and bathrooms, tiling, carpentry, and electrical fit-outs. A cross-line laser level provides an accurate reference plane, allowing you to project lines either individually or simultaneously to form a perfect crosshair on your work surface.

FAQs
Can these laser levels be used for distance measuring?
No, standard laser levels are designed to project a level line or plane across a surface; they do not measure distance. To measure distances accurately, you will need a laser distance measurer or a traditional tape measure. Check out our selection of laser distance measures and tape measures below:
What is the difference between a red and green laser level?
The main difference is visibility. A green laser level is generally up to four times brighter and more visible to the human eye than a red laser, making it ideal for bright indoor conditions and large-scale projects. However, green lasers are often more expensive and consume battery power faster. A red laser level is highly cost-effective and perfectly suited for most standard indoor projects.
Do I need a tripod for my laser level?
While many laser levels come with magnetic brackets or flat bases for mounting on walls or resting on flat surfaces, a tripod offers maximum stability and height adjustability. Using a tripod with your laser level is highly recommended for tasks in the middle of a room, working on uneven terrain, or when precision at a specific, adjustable height is required.
Can I use a laser level outdoors?
Yes, but you need the right setup. Standard laser lines can be difficult to see in bright outdoor daylight. For exterior work, it is highly recommended to use a green laser level (for enhanced visibility) or a rotary laser level paired with a laser receiver (detector). A receiver detects the laser beam even when it is invisible to the naked eye, allowing for accurate outdoor grading, decking, and levelling.
What does "self-levelling" mean?
A self-levelling laser level features an internal pendulum system that automatically adjusts the laser beam to true level, provided the device is placed on a relatively flat surface (usually within 4 degrees of level). If the tool is bumped or placed on a surface that is too steep, it will typically blink or beep to warn you that the line is no longer completely level.
